On social media, people spend too much of their time sharing those things which can determine what kind of situation they are going through. Now a group of researchers saying that a person’s Facebook post can be used to find whether he is going through a depression or getting alcoholic by looking at their habits. Researchers from Penn Medicine and Stony Brook University said that social media posts could also be used to find the physical symptoms. There are many medical types of equipment in this industry which are made to test a person’s physical state like whether he is diagnosed with diabetes or addicted to alcohol etc.
But researchers from this study think that social media can also be used more efficiently to find their medical health condition. For example, researchers found after analysing vast amounts of data that those people who say on facebook “God” and “pray” have higher chances of getting diagnosed with diabetes than any other average person. On the other hand, “bottle” and “drink” are those words which indicate a person’s alcoholic phase. Most of the social media posts are about those people who are sharing their life experiences. Because it’s been found that people are inclined towards social media when it comes to sharing what’s happening around them.
Now researchers think that such type of information can be used to determine what kind of health problems they are going through. On social media, those people who talk a lot about being sad or feeling anxiety might be going through severe or mild depression. After looking at the frequency of such posts on Facebook, one can find whether someone is going through depression or not. Even if this new idea is still fresh, it can quickly transform the way the medical industry is working because merging physical verification with social media data might help a lot.
