Google has been quite regular when it comes to adding news features to Maps, which is now available across various platforms. At the same time, Google Maps had missed some of the most anticipated features as well. The company is now bringing one of those features to the board — speed limit notifications. Google started rolling out speed limits feature to both iOS and Android apps and the upgrade is gradual.
This is how the feature works: While navigation is enabled on the device, users can know the current speed limit on the road. An icon, which displays the speed limit, would be shown on the side of the road. This will be a great way to know where you have to slow down and thus avoid being pulled over by cops. In addition to this, Google Maps would also designate the direction of the speed track.
It’s going to be easy for riders to get rid of penalties because Google Maps would not only detect the same but also show the position of the cameras. In addition to this, Maps would also notify users when they are about to reach the speed-trapped area. While the notification part is available for Denmark, UK and US as of now, the option to find speed cameras are available in other countries as well.
Competitors like Garmin and Waze have been offering the feature for quite some time and Google Maps has been testing the same since 2016. Now that the feature is ready to roll, the company is inviting real users to try that out. This additional features would help many users live without a smart infotainment system in the cars.
Sources say that Google is planning to add more features to Google Maps in the coming months, including user-feedback-based ones.
