Huawei was one of the most discussed smartphone manufacturers of 2018 — for all the right and wrong set of reasons. In fact, the Chinese company was subjected to several investigations and restrictions. However, when the Chief Operating Officer of Huawei made it to a public interview after long, he wanted to re-instate the fact that Huawei is not spying for China. He also added that Donald Trump is a great president of the US.
“I love my country, I support the Communist Party. But I will not do anything to harm the world. No law requires any company in China to install mandatory back doors. I personally would never harm the interest of my customers and me and my company would not answer to such requests,” Ren Zhengfei was quoted saying by sources like Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal. He was doing a rouble-table with media in China.
It should be noted that Ren Zhengfei has not been that close to media sources. In fact, this is the first time he’s talking to media after 2015. The media briefing comes at the right time because the CEO is facing issues at personal and professional levels. While several Western countries have stopped using Huawei products for governmental use, his daughter is detained in Canada.
In an interview that lasted more than two hours, the CEO detailed how Huawei products are free from any form of spying, either for China or other foreign countries for that matter. He has, however, kept silence on specifics of how Huawei is dealing with the intermittent requests from China for gaining private data from devices.
“Trump is a great president. He dares to massively cut taxes, which will benefit business. But you have to treat well the companies and countries so that they are willing to invest in the U.S. and the government will be able to collect enough tax,” the CEO added about the president.
