Star of our solar system, Sun throws the solar winds out in the space that hits most of the planets in our solar system. The electromagnetically charged sun winds are dangerous for the planets that have the life on it, just like the earth. Fortunately, our dense atmosphere prevents the solar winds from entering inside and creates the beautiful aurora shows by deflecting the same. But, the absence of atmosphere on the Moon makes it vulnerable to the solar winds. According to the images revealed by NASA, the moon is the victim of this solar winds as the scientists have spotted the burn marks on the surface of the moon.
NASA’s ARTEMIS mission — which stands for Acceleration, Reconnection, Turbulence, and Electrodynamics of the Moon’s Interaction with the Sun revealed the exciting details of the solar winds burn marks of the moon. The absence of the atmosphere and weaker magnetic field of the moon allowed some solar wind to pass through, which burned the lunar surface leaving the burn marks spotted by ARTEMIS Mission. The image shared by NASA from the ARTEMIS mission shows us the details of the burn marks on the lunar surface.
According to NASA, the weaker magnetic field of the moon is the reason behind the spotted burn marks. The magnetic field effectively filters most of the solar wind, but as the field is weaker than the solar winds, tiny charged particles pass through the filter and hit the surface. As the scientists have spotted the burn marks on the lunar surface, it is clear that the solar winds are pretty harmful on the moon. NASA is preparing for the human-crewed lunar mission in the coming future, and these revelations will help the agency to build sustainable and safe solutions for the astronauts to get protection from the solar winds.
